Care after Combat supporters and team members complete Brecon Beacons Challenge
On 23rd July 2021, 14 intrepid explorers set off for the latest Care after Combat challenge in the Brecon Beacons.
Following a good night's rest, and a 0400hrs wakeup call, the team set out to complete the first of two days walking. Ably assisted by SAS veterans, the team covered 20 miles over hilly terrain in the first day taking in Talybont Reservoir and Pen Y Fan. The group arrived back at camp to a delicious meal provided by Veterans In Action.
Following a slightly later reveille on the second day, the team trekked a further 10 miles to complete the challenge raising a fantastic £8305.84.
Peter Norman, Operations Lead, who took part in the event said 'It was an awesome feat by all involved. Over the course of the weekend, all manner of emotions were felt. It was challenging, rewarding, painful and fun. The event was well organised with fantastic support from the Special Forces team. It gave me a true appreciation of what the Special Forces must go through to pass selection. The challenge encompassed all that is good about team ethos in the military and with the organisations we work with. My knees are still recovering!'
Thank you to the following, without whom the event would not have been a success:
- All donors who supported our team in undertaking this challenge.
- Veterans In Action for roving patrol support, meals, and accommodation.
- The Special Forces team for your expert knowledge and skills on the hills.
- Brand Newark for the donation of technical t-shirts for the event.
