Rare portrait of The Queen listed in our auction

As we celebrate VE Day 75 and to mark the Queen’s recent 94th Birthday, we are auctioning this rare portrait, with all profits going to Care after Combat.

Donated by award winning Welsh artist Dan Llywelyn Hall, the framed oil on canvas portrait is one of two final studies for the portrait of HM The Queen that Dan completed at Windsor Castle, to mark the 60th anniversary of coronation 7 years ago.

At the time, it was commissioned by the Welsh Rugby Union, of which the Queen is patron. "When I first met her she was incredibly disarming; very, very natural," said Dan Llywelyn Hall.

"There was no element of her where you felt at any point was being forced or staged. She was candid and very trusting and all that helped me get beyond the public image. That was the only thing I thought I had to do – get the essence of her as a person."

With the 75th anniversary of VE Day taking place next month, the Queen is due to follow in her father’s footsteps and address her people to mark the milestone anniversary of the moment the guns fell silent at the end of World War II in Europe.

This auction will assist Care after Combat in supporting our veterans in times of great need and difficulty.

Measuring 50 x 50cm, this portrait is a must have piece of history. For more details and to bid, visit cac.hive.gives/thequeen
